Chhavi Jain - Project B

As part of the visual hierarchy project, where we arranged visual elements like image and text in order to create engaging and interesting layouts for a short story, I chose the story 'Beneath the bench on Barnaby Street' from the quick fiction magazine. I enjoyed working on this project on adobe illustrator.

Graphic Wit
Wit enhances the communication of any visual or even verbal message! Especially, in visual graphic design, a hint of wit not only makes the graphic more engaging, and wins time but also becomes memorable and hence  more effective!
In the following works, I tried to employ techniques like figure and ground, positive negative forms, addition and subtraction of forms, collating forms etc. to arrive at these graphics and the concepts behind them.

For the love of travelling and exploring the wonders of the world! And, who knows who you might  meet on your next holiday!
The persistence of memory- The eye registers images from everywhere and retains the visual information in a sequence like the pages of a book.

Evil eye. Beware of your domestic help and neighborhood stalkers, for they may be eying your money & assets.

The above graphic as street art, possibly outside a police station in india, signifying- buri nazar wale tera muh kaalaa!

'Eternity': The quality of being timeless and limitless is quintessential to space. The photographs (that I took) below depict the theme of being eternal in every sense of the term, based on my own interpretations as well.

The perpetual ring of life

Above and beyond

The eternal sunshine

Amaranthine

Infinity

Aeon's flux

Eternal bliss

Radiance forever

Infinite array

SHREYA SADHAN -Project A (start)

After brainstorming on the element space, we came up with various words out of which COMFORT was the word which i carried forward into photography.
Photos in black and white that reflect the chosen word based on the assigned element.

Sipping coffee and relaxing.

Holding onto the big soft pillow.

One gets alot of peace of mind when we are in a religious place like a church  they is a lot of spiritual comfort felt in such a clam environment.

Comfort in terms of how the different pieces of a puzzle fits into each other comfortably.

Someones comfort could be discomfort for the other the girl in the rickshaw looks comfortable but the rickshaw puller may or may not be comfortable.

Mother curdling her child so there is a sense of comfort that the child feels when her mother is around.

Child playing with her pet, the way she is sitting shows comfort

Sitting on a blench early morning in a park for fresh air.

Comfort of being with friends, the love, the care.

Comfortable slippers.

The egg perfectly fits into the egg tray.
Relaxing on a rocking chair read a book.

Diptych:Hand position that shows comfort.

Triptyph: Comfortable position.

BRIEF PROJECT A

PART A: NARRATIVE SEQUENCE

Brainstorm in groups on the given theme – The 5 Elements. Generate words that describe a qualitative aspect of one of the 5 elements. Explore the meaning of a chosen word with image and text, using imagination, memory and observation. Observe, visualize, frame and compose a photograph in b/w, using your understanding of light and camera techniques. Shoot a final of 10 photos in black and white (distinctly different images) that reflect the chosen word based on the assigned element.

Inspired from any one of the images selected from the above set, shoot and develop a series of 3 visual sequences of black and white images for a photography exhibition:
  • A diptych (set of two images that can function together)
  • A triptyph (set of three images that can function together)
  • A visual narrative comprising of a minimum 6 images

THE LITTLE ROCK ON MARS

The story is all about a little rock and its adventure. The little rock had fallen down the mountain and rolled into a mushy river bit by bit, as the Wind blew, and when the ground sometimes trembled. So it left the mountain, and that was a sad time for the little rock.

Until one day, when it rolled into a mushy riverbed! Ooooh, the cool mud felt so good! It couldn't see the sunset, but the little rock loved the cushy spot it could roll around in.
One day water rushed over Little Rock and it felt so smooth and refreshing. It made the rock tumble along, like the wind did.
But while the Wind sometimes blew sand on the rock when it pushed it, the Water caressed the little rock and soothed its rough edges, as it gently nudged it along. Little Rock loved the water and was happy again.
Time passed, many many years and tens of years and hundreds and then thousands of years.
The Water became less and less, the mud felt dryer and dryer, and Little Rock was less and less happy. Then one day the rock realized that the water hadn't come to push him and cool him in many many years. Where did the water go?
Little Rock just lay there, and could only feel the wind push him every once in a while.
Tens and hundreds and thousands of years rolled by and Little Rock just lay there, wondering what would happen next.
One day an incredible thing happened when the little rock was lying down and looking into the sky suddenly one of the lights started getting brighter and it was all headed right towards the little rock ,the little rock got scared the sky ball might hit him and destroy him. The ball hit the ground with a great bounce and emitted light it opened up into a bid floppy egg with four legs, big rollers, a pointed nose with a big melt hand popping of the head that could catch the rock. It seemed a like an animal to the little rock. The little rock called it Rover. The Rover went around and around ,over, up and down, then suddenly it picked up the little rock upside down this further scared the little rock ,he could not understand who rover was and if he had come there to destroy him. After that the Rover poked him and the other rocks as well. The Rover had explored the planet. The little rock finally decided to say something to Rover. He said: hey, hey you big thing, who are you and what are you doing here?
The Rover said “I have come to your planet for a mission and I have come from the planet Earth “. Now was the time when he declared that he was a space shuttle and had come to mars to see if there is a possibility of life.
The little rock and Rover had lots of fun learning new things about each others planet for a long time.
