Visual Design Project PART C

PROJECT PART C: WITTY THINKING IN GRAPHIC DESIGN

Brainstorm on concepts in which two or more visual forms (one of them an object previously chosen) are connected and combined so as to bring out possible meaningful ideas in a humorous way. You can also conceptualize on a word that is related to your object (e.g – Object – Maze, Word – Lost).

Think of phrases, life experiences, anecdotes that the object may remind you of. Consider employing techniques  - juxtaposition, modification/ substitution, addition/subtraction, pun, clichés and literal translation, coincidence, repetition and homage to the familiar - for this exercise by integrating forms with other forms, typography and photography.

Express the concepts in three forms: as a postcard, street/interior art and a 3-d object or installation

Briefing: A documentation of the entire process of arriving at your final three outputs.
Include all and every single concept sketch/exploration that you have made during the process.
The four artworks:
Artwork 1: Color printout for the postcard in either 5”x7” or 6”x6”
Artwork 2: Street/interior hand-done artwork on either an A4/A3.
Artwork 3: Find/take a photograph of the space where this art will go. Scan your artwork and transpose it on the photograph in Photoshop.
Artwork 4: Final 3-d object /installation or a photograph of the material expression in 3-d space.

Visual Design Project PART B

PART B: VISUAL HIERARCHY: TEXT, VISUAL AND LAYOUT

  Choose/create a piece of text – a story, a text or a feature report - based on the 5 elements.
Illustrate two key frames for this text and explore different color palettes for the same illustrations to enhance/emphasize the message.
Combine the text and the visual to create a handout for the story/poem/feature. Experiment with visual hierarchy by changing typographic and visual/color variables to bring clarity, interest and variety to the printed message.

The element that is being worked over is “SPACE”.
The piece chosen is all about the different space all together that is being created by his conscious and the elements and creatures that exists within have been placed within to explain the simple reality of life & how one could interpret the space that is often ignored , which lies within self to be discovered & explored.

ITHACA

When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:
You will never find such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not set them up before you.

Pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many, when,
with such pleasure, with such joy
you will enter ports seen for the first time;
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensual perfumes of all kinds,
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from scholars.

Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.

Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would have never set out on the road.
She has nothing more to give you.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you must already have understood what Ithacas mean.

The character itself has been designed by mapping up the attributes of
 distinct characters that exists in the prose, interpreting further its
evolution throughout the journey.
